LUCKNOW: Malayali journalist Siddique Kappan, who was arrested by the Uttar Pradesh police and jailed on charges of attempted rioting, is remaining in jail despite getting bail. Siddique Kappan, who has been in jail for 2 years since October 2020, was granted conditional bail by the Supreme Court on Monday. However, jail PRO Santosh Verma informed that Kappan cannot be released as a case probed by the ED is still pending.
Kappan and three others were arrested by the Mathura police while they were on their way to Hathras in Uttar Pradesh, where a Dalit woman had died after allegedly being raped. They were arrested for allegedly having links with the Popular Front of India and being a part of a conspiracy to instigate violence.
