New highly contagious Covid variant spreading in US, UK: Reports

LONDON: A new variant of Omicron has become a concern as preventive measures against Covid are intensified in various countries. This new variant of Omicron,, which has spread in the US, has now been discovered in the UK.

The UK Health Security Agency's latest briefing document on covid variants shows that 3.3 per cent of results tested since August 14 had BA 4.6. The report also points out that after this the number of these cases has increased exponentially. There are reports of this variant being found in other countries as well.

However, the source of the new variant has not been identified. But reports indicate that it is more contagious than other variants, although it does not cause serious health problems. Health experts say that those who have received two doses of the Covid vaccine should also take a booster dose.
