KOTTAYAM: Governor Arif Muhammad Khan once again lashed at the state government. While speaking to the media, he said that he is not a rubber stamp and will take decisions including signing bills as per the law, constitution and norms. It is almost clear that the governor's move is an open war with the government and that he will not sign the bills including the Lokayukta Bill passed in the recent assembly session.
‘A democratic government has the right to bring any law and introduce bills. However, if it has to become a law, I must sign it and will not support anything that subverts the autonomy of the universities. I will not allow the universities to be hijacked politically. When the government itself tries to break the law, we cannot cooperate. Autonomy in universities is sacred. Will not permit to add water to it,’ said the governor.
The governor said that relatives of the chief minister and ministers who do not have qualifications will not be allowed to be appointed in universities and raised the question of how a relative of a staff member can get appointed without the knowledge of the chief minister.
