10 years imprisonment for woman who abducted minor girl by impersonating as a man; girl realized her abductor’s gender after 9 days

MAVELIKARA: A 27 year old woman, Sandhya, has been sentenced to ten years in prison and fined Rs 1.07 lakh for abducting a minor girl by impersonating as a man. She was handed down the judgement by Haripadu Special Fast track Court judge, S. Sajikumar.

The crime took place last January after Sandhya created a fake Facebook profile in the name of Chandu and lured the girl. She abducted the girl and also took the money and gold which was in the possession of the victim. It was only after the police caught them that the girl realized that the abductor was in fact a female. Interestingly, the duo lived together for nine days before being caught by the police.


Sandhya, a native of Veerankavu in Thiruvananthapuram is married and the mother of a child. Special Public Prosecutor, S. Rekhu, appeared for the prosecution.
