Woman dies of burns after set ablaze by son for not giving money to buy liquor

THRISSUR: A 75-year-old woman succumbed to burn injuries after being set on fire by her son in Chammanoor. She has been identified as Sreemathi of Chammanoor Thalakkattil House. Her son Manoj (40) set her on fire after pouring kerosene when she refused to give him money to buy liquor. She died while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Ernakulam.

The accused was taken into custody yesterday by the Guruvayur police. Police said that a murder case will be registered against him. Manoj doused kerosene on her body and set her on fire on Tuesday night. The neighbour who heard the commotion informed Sreemathy’s daughter and the police.

Savin and Sarath Lal, the policemen of Vadakkedakad station, took her to the hospital. She was first admitted to a private hospital in Kunnamkulam and then to a hospital in Thrissur, but as her condition worsened, she was shifted to Ernakulam.
