THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Parambukara sub centre in Manarkad panchayat of Kottayam will become another model as it becomes a health and wellness centre. The building prioritizes environmental and climate change factors. The hospital was damaged in the 2018 floods. The new building was constructed at a cost of Rs 50 lakhs.

As it is a place prone to regular floods, the building has been built with precautions to survive it. Health Minister Veena George will inaugurate the Parambukara Health and Wellness Centre at 4 pm tomorrow.

The hospital was unable to function due to waterlogging every year during the rainy season. In the 2018 flood, the building was submerged in water two meters higher than the previous year. The superstructure of the building was cracked and it was unusable.

Similarly, a new building with an area of 2637 square feet was built to survive the flood. A health and wellness centre is completed on the first floor with the ground floor raised by pillars and ramps for the differently abled. The facility is equipped with registration area, waiting area, immunization center, office, clinic, family planning room, public health nursing station, breastfeeding room and separate washroom for staff and patients. Along with this, the minister will also inaugurate five completed health and wellness centres in the district.
