Kattakkada incident: Union threatens employee who recorded video; employee transferred to another unit for safety

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: KSRTC MD on Friday informed the High Court that the employee, who recorded the video of KSRTC employees beating up a father in front of his daughter in the Kattakkada depot, is facing threats from the accused and supporting unions. The MD also stated that the employee has been transferred to another unit to ensure security.

This was clarified in the statement issued by KSRTC on the instructions of Justice Devan Ramachandran, who considered the matter after taking suo moto cognizance of the Kattakkada incident. The KSRTC has suspended four officers in connection with the incident.

The Kattakkada police registered a case against the accused on charges of unlawful assembly, assault and detention. Following the girl's complaint, the accused were also charged with insulting womanhood. The departmental minister has directed to complete the investigation and submit a report against the culprits within 45 days. Following the incident, a group of violent people damaged the buses at the depot.

'90 percent of KSRTC's 26,000 employees are hardworking and give excellent service. The reputation and prestige of KSRTC have been tarnished by the misbehaviour of a few employees. The managing director publicly apologized to avoid demoralizing the majority of hardworking employees. Will take action against the culprits. Will ensure that such incidents do not recur in future,' the statement read.
