NIA seeks custody of 11 PFI activists, including Karamana Ashraf Maulavi

KOCHI: The NIA court in Kochi, on Saturday, will consider the custody plea of ​​eleven Popular Front of India (PFI) activists who were arrested by the NIA after a nationwide raid. The National Investigation Agency has sought custody of the accused, including Karamana Ashraf Maulavi, for seven days.

The NIA is of the view that the accused have communicated through social media platforms related to terrorist activities and the they should be interrogated in this regard. According to NIA, the accused tried to create bloodshed in society by dividing various religious groups. A hit list of people belonging to a particular community was prepared. The NIA says that the accused should be kept in custody for further investigation in this regard.

Initially, the custody plea of ten accused was submitted. Later, the name of CT Sulaiman, who was arrested the other day, was also added.

Meanwhile, the ED report states that the PFI had hatched a conspiracy to assassinate Prime Minister Narendra Modi in July 2022 during a rally. This is stated in the remand report of Shafeeq P, who was arrested by the ED on Thursday from Kerala after a nationwide raid.
