VARKALA: In a shocking incident, a man stabbed his bedridden younger brother to death after getting provoked by the family spending more money on the brother's treatment. The deceased has been identified as Varkala Melvettoor native Sandeep (45). Varkala police have arrested Sandeep's brother Santhosh (52), a veterinary doctor, in the incident. The murder took place at 1:30 am on Saturday morning.
Sandeep, who was an attendant at the Pettah Railway Hospital, has been bedridden for four years due to epilepsy. Sandeep and his helper Satyadas live in the outhouse attached to the house. Last night, the accused entered the outhouse through the back and pulled out Sandeep's feeding tube. Although Satyadas called the police, Santhosh had stabbed Sandeep in the chest by then. The police soon reached the area and rushed Sandeep to the Varkala Taluk Hospital. However, his life could not be saved.
Santhosh later revealed to the police that he committed the murder out of resentment that the family was spending more money on Sandeep's treatment. The accused was taken into custody by the police from the spot. Santhosh, a veterinary doctor in Kattappana, is under suspension after attending duty drunk. He was violent even when he was brought for a medical examination. Santhosh was later produced in court and remanded.
