Accused gets 10 years RI for sexually abusing 16-year-old girl

ATTINGAL: The Attingal Fast Track Special (POCSO) sentenced 32-year-old Shameer staying near Valiyathura in the capital city to 10-year rigorous imprisonment for sexually abusing a 16-year-old girl after taking her to many places. A fine of Rs 50,000 was also imposed on him. Judge T P Prabhash pronounced the verdict.

The incident happened in 2013. The girl refused to go with him to Tamil Nadu when the police registered a case following a missing complaint of the girl. He later abandoned the girl and fled. Based on the girl’s statement before the Ayiroor police and the magistrate, an investigation was conducted against the accused and the charge sheet filed. He sexually abused the girl’s friend also and the trial is going on. He hid his marriage and got acquainted with the girls.

Rs 25,000 should be given to the girl from the fine amount. If he fails to give the money, he should undergo another six months more. The charge sheet was filed after a probe by Varkala police inspector B Vinod. The prosecution cross examined 25 witnesses in the case. 20 documents were produced. Special public prosecutor advocate M Muhasin appeared for the prosecution.
