Woman arrested for extorting money from youth through fake marriage proposal

PATHANAMTHITTA: The police arrested a woman for cheating a youth in the name of a fake marriage proposal. She got acquainted with the youth via phone. Koyipram police took into custody V Arya (36), daughter of Vijayan of Alappuzha Krishnapuram Kappil East Puthenthura Veettil. Arya called the youth, a native of Koyipram Kadapra, after seeing his advertisement for remarriage, for her sister.

The case is that between May 17 to December 22, she extorted Rs 4,15,500 several times through bank transactions in the name of her mother's treatment. The amount was transferred to her account . A mobile phone worth Rs 22,180 was also seized. Realizing that he has been cheated, the youth lodged a complaint with DySP, Pathanamthitta. Koipram sub inspector Rakesh Kumar conducted a detailed investigation.

The information over mobile phone calls was collected with the help of the cyber cell of the district police. Documents related to money transactions were also recovered. The investigation revealed that the accused did not have a sister and was deceiving the youth after proposing for her. The police team, which was searching for the location of the woman's phone, got information that she was in Palakkad. She was trapped by the police later. She was produced in the court and remanded.
