Govt order on action against Popular Front issued; offices to be sealed today, bank accounts will be frozen

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The government issued an order to take action against the Popular Front of India (PFI). The order is based on the central notification banning the organization. Collectors and SPs have been assigned to take action.

The offices of the organisation will be locked and sealed today itself. Bank accounts will be frozen. The DGP will issue a detailed circular. The Union Home Ministry banned the Popular Front of India and eight affiliated organizations for five years yesterday. The action was followed by nationwide raids and arrests of leaders for alleged terrorist links.

The Union Home Ministry pointed in the ban order that the PFI and its feeder organizations pose a threat to the integrity, sovereignty and security of the country and have links with international terrorist groups. The action was taken after considering the recommendation of Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka and Gujarat governments.

Meantime, Popular Front state general secretary Abdul Sattar of Karunagapallly arrested will be produced in the NIA court in Kochi today. He was brought to Kochi last night. Sattar has been charged with UAPA and inciting hatred among various religious groups.

Sattar was taken into custody yesterday from the PFI divisional office in Puthiyakavu. Sattar through Facebook informed that he accepts the ban of Popular Front and had dissolved the organization.
