Heavy rain followed by high temperatures-Kerala has been witnessing this weather pattern nowadays which has become a cause for concern. Experts are giving indications that the temperature will rise even more as this year saw a repetition of last year's weather. There is also a warning that there will be drought if the same weather continues.
The temperature has gone above 32 degrees Celsius for several days now. Last year, in September, the weather was similar. This was followed by heavy rain in October and there were heavy damages in Koottikkal. The rain continued till December. But after December, it became hot again and this even led to a shortage in drinking water. At the same time, after the rains stopped, in many places, the overflowing rivers became sandbanks and rock formations. Water in wells and ponds has reduced. According to the estimate so far, the rainfall in the district is 14% less than expected. This year there was a 51% decrease in rainfall during January and February. After that, 124 percent more rain was received during the period of March and May. During the period from October 1 to December 31 last year, 127 percent more rain was received.
