E P Jayarajan shares memories of protests with Kodiyeri

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: E P Jayarajan and Kodiyeri Balakrishnan had worked together in the Communist Party for almost five decades. Kodiyeri was not just a colleague for EP. They have fought and won together many protests. E P shared his memories with the media.

‘We have been together for nearly 50 years. We worked together in students’ youth organisations and through that came to the party. He was a great organizer and was always gentle. When K Karunakaran was the chief minister, there was a protest march by DYFI at the Kannur Collectorate. When the police resorted to lathicharge, we reached the spot. Almost five to ten people lined up on the road and were firing. We jumped before it. The then Superintendent of Police George told us then that what you did was a big mistake. What if there was someone against you people in the group? We have fought together many such incidents,’ said EP.

"Our family members are also very close. I saw him last on the day he left for treatment in Chennai. Although wanted to visit him in Chennai, the doctors had banned visitors. So it was not possible then,' added EP.
