THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala Prisons headquarters DIG MK Vinod Kumar has directed DIGs not to allow any outside vehicles to enter the prisons unnecessarily. He also instructed that apart from the officials in charge, those on guard duty should check the vehicles bringing food items. The suggestion was made following the controversial incident in Kannur Central Jail where an auto driver bypassed the security systems and delivered ganja to the prisoners.
The North Region DIG had given a report pointing out the failure of the officials in the incident. It was also stated that the auto driver who arrived with food items was passed without inspection. Due to this, strict instructions were given to the jail officials.
Outside vehicles shall be allowed to pass only with the written permission of the Superintendent in case of emergency. The regional DIGs should visit the jails under their charge once a month and submit a report. Lightning inspection should be conducted in jails twice a month.
