pfi

NEW DELHI: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has rejected reports claiming that Kerala police officers have links with Popular Front, a banned organization. Earlier, it was alleged that the NIA had found that 873 police officers of the Kerala Police had links with the Popular Front and that it had handed over the report containing the information to the Kerala Police. The NIA, which completely rejected this report, added that it has clarified the matter to the Kerala Police.

The central agency had detained 45 people due to their connection with the Popular Front. 16 out of 19 people, who were named accused in cases filed by the NIA in Delhi, were sent to judicial custody. The remaining three will remain in NIA custody till October 10. On September 28, the Union Home Ministry issued an order banning the Popular Front and eight affiliated organizations under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act over alleged terror activities.
