THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The plan to convert Thiruvananthapuram - Ernakulam and Shoranur-Mangalore railway lines into high-speed rail lines by 2024 has been approved.
The trains can reach a speed of up to 143 km per hour on these tracks.
At present, the state has D-group tracks that can reach up to 100 kmph speed. The average speed is less than 80 kmph. By changing it to 143 kmph, an average speed of 130 kmph can be achieved. The high-speed railway line will be made first from Thiruvananthapuram to Ernakulam via Kollam, Kayamkulam and Alappuzha. The rail line from Chennai to Shoranur will also be made into an expressway. By introducing this, high-speed trains including Vande Bharat trains can run services in the state. With the introduction of high-speed rail lines, signal system will be improved. With this, more trains can run on the current route and travel time can be reduced.
