Bhagawal Singh had liabilities of lakhs, took loan of Rs 8.5 lakh from Elanthoor Co-operative Bank alone; court to consider custody plea of accused today

PATHANAMTHITTA: The Ernakulam Judicial First Class Court will consider the custody plea of the accused remanded in the human sacrifice case today. The accused in the case are Mohammad Shafi (52) of Perumbavoor Vengola Vezhapilli House, Bhagawal Singh (68) of Pathanamthitta Elanthoor Karamveli Kadampally House, an ayurvedic healer and his second wife Laila.

The police will seek the custody of the accused for 12 days to interrogate and collect evidence. The custody plea said that more scientific evidence needs to be collected and it should be investigated whether the accused have trapped anyone else in a similar manner. The magistrate had directed to produce the accused in the court Thursday morning. Steps to recover the jewellery of the murdered women will also begin today.

Meantime, reports that came in said Bhagwal Singh's family had financial liabilities of lakhs. He had taken a loan of Rs 8.5 lakh from Elanthoor Cooperative Bank for his daughter’s education after pledging their house and land. It is reported that the family had taken loan from other banks also.
