MALAYINKEEZHU: The police here have arrested Dileep (35), who lives on rent in 'Girija Bhavan' in Malayinkeezhu, and registered a case of attempt to murder for brutally thrashing his wife. Dileep, an alcoholic, used to beat his wife Athira and enjoy videotaping it.
Athira and Dileep married five years ago after being in a romantic relationship. Dileep, an electrician, lived on rent with his wife in various places. Many homeowners have evicted them for harassing Athira.
The police said that the man had sought treatment at a rehabilitation centre to stop drinking and started drinking even after the treatment. The reason for the attack was Athira going to work at a margin-free shop in Kulakkode, even after Dileep repeatedly asked her not to go.
The police found a recording of Dileep beating Athira on his mobile phone. There are also videos of his wife saying that she will not go to work. Although she suffered beatings regularly, the woman did not file a complaint with the police. On the night of October 16, Dileep arrived drunk and brutally beat her.
The woman sustained injuries on her face and head. On the morning of the 17th, Dileep was arrested from his house after the woman lodged a complaint with the police. They have two children aged three and one and a half years. The woman sought treatment at Malayinkeezhu Taluk Hospital. After recording her statement, Athira and the children were shifted to Women Protection Office in Poojapura.
