Plus 1 admission; HC division bench upholds decision of single bench to cancel forward community reservation

high-court

KOCHI: The division bench of Kerala High Court has upheld the decision of the single bench to cancel the 10% reservation quota for forward communities in the admission to plus one. It also asked the government to issue a comprehensive order by next April to remove the ambiguity in the matter.

However, the court’s decision will not affect those admissions done this year.

The division bench consisting of Justices, Alexander Thomas, and Shoba Anamma Eapen instructed the government to issue an order which makes it clear how are those included in the different quotas for admission.

The government issued an order on 7 July allowing a 10% community quota for plus one in schools run by forward communities. Other private school managements submitted a plea against this move. The single bench said that the government order was against the constitution and canceled it.

The order states that centralized allotment must be done for admission to community quotas.

The NSS and the government appealed against this decision by the single bench.

Earlier, the division bench had given an interim order allowing NSS to admit students under the community quota for this academic year. Currently, there are many orders related to secondary admission. Only after examining all this can the process be cleared. The division bench has instructed the government to clear all this and issue a detailed order
