CHENNAI: Reports say the police have received vital evidence in the case of the death of a person due to a cylinder blast in Coimbatore. It is hinted that evidence has been obtained that strengthens the suspicion of suicide attack. Information was also received that the accused had planned massive explosions. A cylinder in a car exploded in front of the Kotai Eswaran temple near the Coimbatore Town Hall around 5 am on Sunday.

Jamesha Mubeen (25), a resident of Ukkadam G M Nagar, who was in the car was killed in the blast. Jamesha’s body contained the presence of chemical solvents that helped in burning. This is the reason why the police suspect the blast as a suicide attack. Thirteen parts of his body where the presence of chemicals was found have been sent for special examination.

It is also indicated that the police have received evidence confirming that the accused have planned massive explosions. In a search at Jamesha's house, some crucial documents were found. It contains the names of some temples in the city and details of government firms. About 75 kg of chemical compounds used for blasts were found from his house. Jamesha, an engineering graduate was questioned by the NIA in a case in 2019.

The police also suspect that the suspects in the blast have links with the ISIS. One of the accused, Firoz Ismail, was sent back from Dubai in 2019 on suspicion of ISIS links. In addition, the police are expanding the investigation into the terrorist organization Al Umma. It was found that Dalha, son of Nawab Khan, brother of Al Umma leader Basha, had arranged the car for Jamesha. The car was handed over ten times and came into possession of the accused. The 1998 Coimbatore blasts were planned by Al Umma, so the investigation is being extended to it.

After the incident, Firoz Ismail, Nawaz Ismail, Muhammad Riyas, Muhammad Azharuddin and Muhammad Talha, natives of GM Nagar, who were found to be related to Jamesha, were arrested.

One of the two gas cylinders in the car exploded. The car has been completely destroyed. Nails were also found in the car. After the incident, the CCTV footage of Jamesha carrying an object like a gas cylinder into the car was released. The police also found potassium nitrate, aluminium powder etc from the house of Jamesha, who used to collect and sell old clothes.
