NEW DELHI: India’s External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar will visit Russia on November 8. As part of the visit, Jaishankar will meet Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. Indian team's visit amid Russia’s ongoing war with Ukraine, will reportedly discuss the price of fuel purchased from Russia, the food grain crisis caused by the war and the emerging threat of nuclear weapons. The ministers will discuss the current state of bilateral relations and the international agenda, said Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman.
Indian External Affairs Minister's visit to Russia was announced at a time when the G7’s price cap on oil prices is about to come into effect from December. Currently, India is Russia's number one petroleum fuel consumer. India has been buying fuel from Russia at low prices since the beginning of Russia-Ukraine crisis. India’s stand on Ukraine issue was neither in favour of Russia or rejecting Ukraine. India abstained from voting against Russia in the UN Security Council despite intense pressure from the United States.
