KOCHI: The High Court has directed the Motor Vehicle Department and the police to take strict action if the vehicles coming from other states violate the rules, regardless of where they are registered or who the owner is. Fitness certificate and insurance are applicable for all vehicles. The directive of the Division Bench comprising Justice Anil K Narendran and Justice PG Ajithkumar came when the case in connection with the Vadakancherry road accident was re-considered. The case will be heard again after ten days.
The additional transport commissioner explained actions taken so far in the interim order. It was also informed that the fitness certificates of 569 vehicles that violated the rules and the licenses of the drivers found guilty were cancelled. Special teams have been formed to carry out intensive inspections.
The court also directed to submit a detailed affidavit regarding the norms regarding advertisement in KSRTC vehicles. KSRTC's counsel said that they have ensured that all their vehicles have fitness certificates.

Video footage of motor shows being held in violation of rules at Wayanad Govt. Engineering College and Kozhikode National Institute of Technology was shown in the court. The court directed the additional Transport Commissioner to submit more info. The head of the institution should also take action against violations of the law.
Road shows in colleges etc by changing the design of vehicles brought from abroad through Carnet should be stopped. It was also suggested that these should be seized and produced before the Magistrate Court. It should be ensured that the violations of the seized vehicles are removed.
