THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: ‘Kerala Puraskaram’, the state-level supreme award for distinguished personalities for their contribution to society has been announced. The award follows the pattern of the Padma awards. The ‘Kerala Jyothi’ award has been given to MT Vasudevan Nair. Omchery N N Pillai, T Madhava Menon and PA Muhammad Kutty (Mammootty) are selected for Kerala Prabha. Dr Sathyabhama Das Biju (Dr Biju), magician Gopinath Muthukad, Kanayi Kunhiraman, Kochouseph Chittilappilly, MP Parameswaran and Vaikom Vijayalakshmi has been awarded with the Kerala Sree.
The three awards are the newly-established top state honours. Kerala Jyothi, the first highest award is given to one person a year. Kerala Prabha will be awarded to two and Kerala Sree to five respectively. The winners were selected by award committee at three levels namely the Primary scrutiny committee (secretary level committee), Secondary scrutiny committee and Award committee. Recommendations submitted by the Secondary scrutiny committee were inspected by the Award committee including Adoor Gopalakrishnan, TKA Nair and Dr Khadija Mumtaz. The award committee gave the list of first awardees of the newly-established top state honors to the government.
