THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Several people were injured after the wing of an aeroplane, which was being transported on a trailer truck, hit a KSRTC bus. The incident took place at Balaramapuram Junction around 1 am on Wednesday. Five people, including the bus driver, were injured in the accident and were admitted to the hospital. The front portion of the bus was completely damaged. The traffic on the national highway got disrupted for several hours following the accident.
The trailer lorry was going from Thiruvananthapuram to Hyderabad when it collided with the bus which was going to Thiruvananthapuram. The A-320 aircraft, which was used by engineering students for studies, had been kept at the hangar unit of the Thiruvananthapuram airport for four years after finding that it could no longer be used. This aircraft had been in service for 30 years. Hyderabad native Joginder Singh recently acquired the plane, which was sold as scrap for Rs 75 lakh. Following this, the parts of the aeroplane were being transported to Hyderabad in four different vehicles. The driver of the trailer truck that caused the accident immediately fled the spot. This caused a huge traffic disruption in the area.
