BHOPAL: Two cheetahs out of the eight brought from Namibia, Africa to Kuno National Park in Madhya Pradesh had been released from quarantine into the bigger enclosure set up for them. They had been released on Saturday evening in the presence of park officials. Earlier it was informed that spotted deer would be brought here for cheetahs to hunt. Now officials said that they had hunted their first prey within 24 hours of release.

As per reports, the hunting took place either on Sunday night or Monday morning. This was the first kill by the cheetahs after they were released into a new habitat. The Prime Minister had earlier said that the cheetahs brought to India were in healthy condition. A mandatory quarantine of one month is needed for the wild animals that are transferred from one country to another. This is done to prevent infection. The eight cheetahs that were brought to India was kept in quarantine and were fed buffalo meat. Two of them had been released now into the new habitat and the remaining six will be released shortly.

Meanwhile, a news came out that a cheetah named ‘Asha’ was pregnant. Although it made everyone happy, it was later confirmed that it got aborted. Cheetah Conservation Fund founder Dr Laurie Marker informed that Asha got aborted due to stress from translocation.

Eight cheetahs were brought to India from Namibia on September 17 as part of India's 75th Independence day. It includes five female cheetahs and three male cheetahs.
