THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The government has filed a plea in the High court against the Governor regarding the temporary appointment of Vice chancellor in KTU. In the petition, it is pointed out that the appointment by the Governor is against the university rules and demands to cancel this. The government has also requested to allow to handover the charge to any other Vice chancellor till an order is issued on the plea. Governor has appointed Dr Ciza Thomas as KTU Vice chancellor and she took charge few days ago.

Meanwhile, all ten Vice chancellors have given explanation to Governor’s show cause notice. Today was the deadline to submit the explanation. The Governor’s move is to take further action after the hearing of the VCs. The Vice chancellors have given explanation that they are eligible for the post as per UGC guidelines.

The Governor has demanded the resignation of Vice chancellors of Kerala university, MG, CUSAT, Kerala Fisheries university, Kannur university, KTU, Sree Shankaracharya university, Calicut university and Malayalam university. The Supreme Court had earlier cancelled the appointment of the Technical University VC on the ground that the appointment was not in accordance with the rules. On the basis of this verdict, the Governor has asked the VCs to resign. Time was allowed to give an explanation in the petition filed by VCs in the High Court against this.
