International award for Kerala tourism, Minister Muhammad Riyas receives award during ceremony in London

LONDON: Kerala wins Responsible Tourism global award. The award was given for the Water Street project. Tourism Minister PA Muhammad Riyas received the award at the ceremony held at the World Travel Market in London. Tourism Director PB Nooh IAS, Responsible Tourism State Mission Coordinator K Roopesh Kumar were also present at the award ceremony.

The Water Street Project received the award for its exemplary work in water conservation in the tourism sector with public participation. The jury assessed that the Water Street project had public participation. The jury pointed out the activities in Maravanthuruth, Kottayam where the water street project was implemented.

​​​​​​The project is to deepen and clean canals and various water bodies and use them for tourism activities. For the protection of water bodies, coir boovasthra were laid. These were used for tourism activities including kayaking. Street project is about creating a popular tourist destination in each area. The jury said that the concept of Water Street and the public participation for this is exemplary.

Apart from Maravanthuruthu, the street project is progressing in Kadalundy, Thrithala, Pattithara, Valiyaparamba, Pinarayi, Ancharakandi, Kanthallur, Manchira and Chekkadi. Tourist streets are being created according the area.

The project is being implemented by the Responsible Tourism Mission. The street project started during this government’s administration. Minister PA Mohammad Riyas said that this award is a recognition for the activities of Kerala Tourism in the post-Covid period and this award will be helpful for the growth of Kerala Tourism.
