Crop loss: one lakh applicants, Rs 44 crore yet to be paid

KOTTAYAM: The Centre and state are causing trouble to more than one lakh applicants without providing compensation for crop loss due to natural calamities. Rs 44 crores to be paid by the centre and the state. Farmers who have registered on the AIMS portal of the agriculture department have not received even a single rupee.

In the first flood, rice, rubber, banana and other crops of most farmers were destroyed. Bunds in weak areas collapsed. Vegetables, which were expected to get more money in the Onam market, also perished. The government had stated that paddy will get Rs 35,000 per hectare as natural calamity relief. But even the promised compensation has not been provided.

Name should be registered in AIMS portal within 10 days for compensation. The amount was nor even provided to deserving applicants. This is the first time of such delay. The reason is said to be financial crisis.
