Local body by-elections: Setback for LDF, UDF wins 15 seats

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The UDF made a huge advance in the by-elections held on Wednesday in 29 local wards of 11 districts of the state. While the UDF won 15 seats, the LDF got 12, and the BJP won 2 seats. The UDF managed to capture seven seats from the Left Front and two from the BJP. The Left Front won in one sitting seat of UDF. The BJP lost two of its sitting seats to the UDF and one to the LDF. In Alappuzha, BJP captured one seat from the Left Front.

Performance of parties- UDF: Congress 13, Muslim League 2. LDF: CPM-9, KCM-2, CPI-1, BJP -2.

Seats captured by UDF

The UDF captured Minalur in Wadakanchery Municipality, Manjapara of Pazhyakunnummel Gram Panchayat in Thiruvananthapuram, Athikkattukulangara in Palamel Panchayat in Palakkad, Vannappuram in Elamdesam Block in Idukki, Kizhakkothu in Kozhikode, Kaniyambetta, Chitramoola and Muttuthukandam in Keerampara Gram Panchayat from the LDF. It also seized Vanmazhy West Ward in Pandanad and Muthukulam High School ward in Alappuzha from the BJP.

The LDF captured the Ponneduthal ward in Kanjikkuzhy in Idukki from the UDF. It also captured the Vaaniyakkod ward in Paravur Municipality in Ernakulam from the BJP.

BJP

The BJP captured the eighth ward of Karthikappally Panchayat in Alappuzha from the Left Front.
