AMBALAPPUZHA: The Punnapra police arrested a housewife on a complaint of cheating people to the tune of Rs 65 lakh from several people by promising them jobs in Dubai. The arrested is R Raji (38) of Punnapra Saravana Bhavan. People losing money are from Punnapra, Valanjavazhi, Kakkazham, Ambalapuzha, Pallana, Thrikunnapuzha, Arattupuzha, Kallikad, Valiazhikkal and Mannar.

The complaint is that Raji accepted Rs 65,000 each from nearly hundred people by promising them jobs in Choco White, a British Company in Dubai. Their relatives told police that 48 of those who paid the money went on visiting visas, but they were suffering in Dubai without even getting a place to live. Raji had told those who paid money that her brother Vishnu is in Dubai and he will be arranging the job and visa. However, when those who reached Dubai inquired, they found that the company Choco White was operating until 2018 and then stopped functioning.

Those going on visiting visas were accommodated in lodges at various locations. Food and accommodation will be provided only for a few days. They will be kicked out of the room later. They are suffering as they cannot reach their hometown.

Big sharks behind Raji
The police have concluded that there may be big sharks behind Raji. Raji's husband is also abroad. Those who lost their money and their relatives gathered in front of the police station after knowing Raji’s arrest. The police have recovered around Rs 11.5 lakh from Raji's bag. She told police that the amount was collected from many people recently.
