THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Raj Bhavan march called by the higher education protection committee, started from the Museum with the slogan protect the higher education sector. CPM general secretary Sitaram Yechury inaugurated the march.
Yechury said the situation in Kerala is extraordinary. The march is not against individuals but against the policies. He also clarified that the protest is to protect the higher education sector.
Chief minister and the ministers are not participating in the march. CPM state secretary M V Govindan responded that this is a strong popular movement. CPI state secretary Kanam Rajendran said the governor need not be a court.
The LDF leaders informed that one lakh people are lining up in front of the Raj Bhavan and tens of thousands in the gatherings held in the district headquarters. Educationists, scholars, teachers, political, social and cultural leaders are participating in the march. Following the Raj Bhavan March, traffic restrictions were imposed in the city from Tuesday morning.
