JAKARTA: As world leaders gathered for the 17th G20 summit, US President Joe Biden walked over to Prime Minister Modi to shake his hand before sitting next to each other. Biden approached Modi from his back as the Indian PM turned to speak with his team. Modi and Biden hugged each other and Modi said something to the US President to make him laugh. Soon after, French President Emmanuel Macron also greeted and shook hands with Prime Minister Modi. The Prime Minister and the US President will attend the G20 working session on food and energy security on Tuesday.

The summit is being held today and tomorrow in Nusa Dua, a resort area in Bali. Indonesia gave a traditional welcome to Prime Minister Modi who arrived on Monday. The cordial reception was indicative of the relationship between the two countries. Sharing the video, the Prime Minister tweeted, 'Grateful to the Indian community for the warm welcome in Bali!'
This morning, Prime Minister Modi was received by Indonesian President Joko Widodo at the summit venue. The next G20 summit will be held in India. Indonesian President Joko Widodo will hand over the presidency of the G20 to Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the closing meeting tomorrow.
Modi, US President Joe Biden, British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, French President Emmanuel Macron, Chinese President Xi Jinping, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni are among the leaders participating in the summit. The leaders of the member countries have come to participate in the summit that will be held in Indonesia today and tomorrow.

Rulers of the invited countries, including the UAE, will also participate in the summit. Instead of Russian President Vladimir Putin, his foreign minister will take part. Outgoing Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro will not attend the summit. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will address the summit virtually at the invitation of the Indonesian President. Meanwhile, Twitter chief Elon Musk participated virtually in the B20 business forum held yesterday in connection with the summit.
45 hours 20 meeting, Modi to get busy
Modi, who arrived in Bali last night to attend the summit, will be attending 20 meetings in 45 hours. He will attend key sessions at the summit, including food energy security, digital and health, and hold bilateral talks with British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and French President Emmanuel Macron on Wednesday.
Modi's meeting with other world leaders has also been scheduled, the Ministry of External Affairs said. Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese announced that he will hold a bilateral meeting with Modi. Modi will visit the mangrove forest in Bali today. He will then address the Indian community in Inoonesia. Modi will invite world leaders to the G20 summit in India next year. He will return to India by tomorrow evening.
