kk

TEHRAN: A court in Iran has issued first death sentence over anti-hijab protests. Death penalty has been awarded to a protester who set fire to a government building during the anti-hijab protest. The action is declared by the Iran Revolutionary Court. No further details have been released about the accused. A resolution was presented in Iran's parliament demanding death penalty for those arrested for participating in anti-hijab protests. The court order came after this resolution was supported by 277 of the 290 members of Parliament.

Iran's judiciary chief Gholamhossein Mohseni, said the death penalty would be given to key perpetrators to deter others from protesting.

More than 300 people have been killed in the anti-hijab protest that followed the death of Mahsa Amini, who was detained by the moral police in Iran. Thousands of people from different corners of the world supported the anti-hijab protest by cutting their hair and burning hijab.
