CHENNAI: A 10-year-old girl died during an attack by the locals against a six-member family on suspicion of temple thieves. The incident happened near Killanur village of Pudukottai in Tamil Nadu. Reports said the victims were natives of Pudukottai. The visuals of the incident are circulating on the social media.
The family was attacked on November 14. Some temples in the area had been robbed earlier. WhatsApp messages were circulating among the villagers that a gang of thieves had been spotted. In the meanwhile, a family of six travelling in an auto was noticed by the local residents. With this, a few people followed the auto on two-wheelers, claiming to be robbers. The number of people increased after the information. Within a short time, the mob surrounded the auto and unleashed violence on the occupants. Though the seriously injured child was admitted in the hospital, she died while undergoing treatment.
Following the complaint of the child's mother, the police registered a case and started investigation. The complaint said they were attacked by the villagers while going to the temple with their families. Meantime, another video of the items allegedly stolen by the occupants of the auto is also circulating on social media.
