Accused Abbas not granted bail for threatening Madhu’s mother and sister

PALAKKAD: The court did not grant bail to Abbas, who is the accused in threatening mother Malli and sister Sarasu of Madhu, a tribal youth who was beaten to death by a mob. The bail was denied by SC-ST Special Court, Mannarkkad on the basis of statement by Malli. She informed the court that she fears of getting threats again if the accused is granted bail. Abbas is having close connections with the murder case accused.

The trial of the Madhu murder case is in its final stages. In the case with 122 witnesses, only two investigating officers are yet to be questioned. Their hearing is scheduled for Monday. As the trial of the case is about to end, special prosecutor Rajesh M Menon has not been given a single rupee as government fee till date. Rajesh changed the course of the case when the former appointed prosecutors had failed. The fee sanctioned by the government for a special prosecutor is Rs 240 per sitting. A written request was sent to the government to grant it. But the letter has not received answer till date.
