Agricultural Education in state list, UGC rules not applicable; SC to consider plea of former KUFOS VC today 

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court will consider today the appeal of Dr K Riji John, former vice chancellor of the Kerala University of Fisheries and Ocean Studies (KUFOS). He approached the Supreme Court challenging the high court order quashing his appointment as VC. The appeal will be considered by a bench led by the Chief Justice.

Riji John's appeal said agricultural education is in the state list and UGC rules are not applicable. A division bench of the high court had quashed his appointment as VC on November 14. The court accepted the claim of the petitioner that the appointment of VC was not in accordance with UGC rules.

Dr K K Vijayan of Ernakulam, who was in the vice chancellor appointment list, moved the high court alleging that Riji John do not have enough qualifications. The petitioner argued that Riji John did not have ten years of work experience as a professor in a university as per UGC norms.
