Sewage connection rates hiked in state by Rs 1000-Rs 1500; imposes cess and fixed charges

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Water Authority has issued an order increasing the rates for new sewage connections in the state by Rs 1000 for domestic consumers and Rs 1500 for other categories including non-domestic consumers. Rates for domestic consumers will increase from Rs 500 to Rs 1500. For non-domestic users it will be Rs 2500 instead of Rs 1000.

According to water consumption, it has been divided into three slabs of up to 25 kilolitres, up to 50 kilolitres and above 50 kilolitres. New sewage cess and fixed charges have been imposed on the basis of this. Cess will be charged along with the monthly bill. Flats have been included in the category of domestic consumers. Sewage connection will also be provided for buildings without water connection.

Cess and Fixed Charge

*Up to 25 kilolitres – 11.02 % cess of water consumption. A fixed charge of Rs 50 for non-domestic and special connections and Rs 150 for industrial connections. There is no fixed charge for domestic categories.

*25 to 50 kiloliters - 25% cess. A fixed charge of Rs 50 for domestic connections, Rs 100 for non-domestic and special connections, and Rs 200 for industrial connections.

*Above 50 kiloliters- 50% cess. A fixed charge of Rs 100 for domestic connections, Rs 200 for non-domestic and special connections and Rs 300 for industrial connections.
