Bill to regularize illegal constructions to be submitted in assembly

k

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Panchayat and Municipality Acts in the state will be amended to regularize illegal constructions for the purpose of generating revenue for the local bodies and to bring relief to the common people. The buildings that started construction and completed on or before November 7, 2019 will be fined and regularized.

For this purpose, notification of the bill to amend Section 235 AB (1) of the Kerala Panchayat Raj Act, 1994 and Section 407 (1) of the Kerala Municipality Act has been issued. It will be presented in the upcoming assembly session.

The criteria and penalties will be clear only when the bill is introduced. In 2017, the Municipality Act was amended in a similar manner. Allegations have been raised that the rule amendment is for some big building owners who do not follow the building rules.
