Vizhinjam: Protesters assure that heavy vehicles will not be obstructed

KOCHI: The protesters on Tuesday assured the High Court that they will not obstruct heavy vehicles going to the Vizhinjam port construction area. Justice Anu Sivaraman, who recorded this, adjourned the pleas filed by Adani Group and construction contract company Howe Engineering seeking adequate protection for the port construction to November 28.

The petitioners pointed out that even after two months have passed since the High Court ordered to provide police protection for the construction of the port, the government has not been able to implement it. A hundred days have passed since the construction came to a halt. The protesters have not removed the pandals. The road has been blocked. Failure to implement the court order will send a wrong message to society. The petitioners also demanded that a ' commission be appointed to convince the court of the real facts of the project area.

But the protestors opposed this saying that no vehicles came to the project area. The single bench at this point verbalized that it was clear from this argument that there was an obstruction to the passage of vehicles. The government had earlier clarified that there are limitations in using force as the protesters included women and children. The court warned that the protesters should not use this position of the government as a trump card.

"Do not misunderstand that the police and courts are incapable of taking strict action. Do not disturb port construction," the court said. The single bench also directed that vehicles should not be obstructed from entering the project area.
