KOCHI: The High Court has directed the Sabarimala Special Commissioner to inspect and submit a report on the facilities for the distribution of 'appam' and 'aravana' at Sabarimala. The order of a division bench comprising Justice Anil K Narendran and Justice PG Ajithkumar followed the Special Commissioner's report that there are lapses on the part of the contractor in providing sufficient cans for the supply of aravana.

The High Court directed the Devaswom board that there should be no interruption in the distribution of aravana and that action may be taken against the contractor if he fails to deliver the cans.

The Devaswom board explained that although a supply order was placed for 50 lakh cans, the contractor had made eight lakh cans available till November 18. At present, Aravana is in stock in 15 lakh cans. The board also explained that it has directed to issue a show cause notice to the contractor. The court will hear the matter again on November 24.
