KOZHIKODE: Local residents, including women and children, have intensified their protest against the sewage treatment plant being built by the municipality in Kothi in Kozhikode. The police used force against those who blocked the road this morning. In the meantime, some people collapsed. There are also accusations that a child was assaulted. Police operations are still going on to remove those blocking the road. The locals are of the position that no matter what happens, they will not allow any vehicle with the materials required for the construction of the plant. A large police presence is stationed in the area.

The agitators stopped the corporation officials who came to resume the construction work with a favourable court verdict. The strike committee has decided to approach the High Court alleging that the construction is in violation of the Coastal Regulation Zone Act. But the move of the municipal corporation is to continue the construction work under police guard.
