THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Opposition Leader VD Satheesan on Thursday said that the hike in the price of liquor in the state is unscientific. He said in a press release that despite the increase in alcohol prices, consumption will not decline and that the financial situation of families will be adversely affected. He also stated that the government could have avoided the decision to increase the price of milk could by giving incentives.
He noted that the increase in the price of liquor will disrupt the family budget as many people will start spending the money earmarked for household expenses and children's education on liquor. The opposition leader also alleged that the government's action will only lead to increased consumption of deadly drugs. Satheesan added that it is unfortunate that the government, which organizes anti-drug campaigns, is indirectly paving way for the spread of drugs.
