Conflict in Congress ‘A’ group gets stronger over Tharoor’s meeting

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The conflict in Congress ‘A’ group is becoming stronger after the District Committee of Youth Congress have decided to invite Shashi Tharoor to inaugurate a big meeting.

The brain behind this public meeting is Oommen Chandy’s confidant and Youth Congress District President, Chinnu Kurian Joy. This move is now opposed by Rahul Mariapalli, who is a strong leader of the A group in the district. Rahul is also known to be close to Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan and member of Kottayam Congress Mandalam.

The opposition is not because Tharoor is inaugurating the public meeting. It is against the decision of holding the public meeting without consulting leaders like Thiruvanchoor.

A new controversy has emerged that some Youth Congress leaders have taken money by promising some private colleges in Kottayam district with the promise to bring Tharoor to speak at these institutions. Using Tharoor’s name to collect money is opposed by one group of Youth Congress. The other group says that this is to solve the financial crunch faced by the party.

The state leadership is frustrated with the infighting in ‘A’ group at Kottayam, which is where Oommen Chandy has a strong presence.
