THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The City Gas project which supplies gas to houses through pipelines has started in the capital city. In the first phase, connection was given to 60 houses in Vettukadu ward. The city gas plant administration officials said that the users are giving good feedback as it’s been a week since giving connection.

By next month, 320 more houses will be supplied with gas after installation of registered meters. The target is to supply gas to 1200 households by next January. Out of the currently registered 20,000 people, the work of laying pipes to provide connection to 2000 people is in progress.

Liquid fuel delivered by tankers from the Kalamassery plant will be converted into gas at the main plant and stored. MDPE gas pipes are used for connection to houses. PNG is available at 70 percent of the LPG cylinder rate. With the introduction of city gas, the fuel cost can be saved by 20 percent. In the second phase of project, the connection will be provided to more areas.
