Delhi MCD polls: Setback for BJP; AAP on course for victory

NEW DELHI: As the counting of votes in the Delhi Municipal Corporation elections entered its final stage, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is leading in 136 seats while the BJP is leading in 102 seats. But the Congress is leading in just 2 seats. When compared to the 2017 elections, the current figures indicate a setback for the BJP.

BJP has ruled Delhi Corporation for 15 years. In the elections held in 2017, the polling was 53 percent. That day, BJP was able to secure victory in 181 wards. AAP, which came second, won in 48 wards and Congress in 27 wards.

A total of 1349 candidates contested in the corporation with a total of 250 wards. BJP and Aam Aadmi Party have fielded candidates in all the wards and Congress in 247 seats. Exit poll results were in favor of AAP.
