BSNL to roll out 5G services across 1.35 lakh towers in nation in few months

NEW DELHI: Union Telecom and Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Thursday announced that BSNL 5G services will be rolled out in the country within the next five to seven months. As per the minister, the current 4G technology will be upgraded to 5G soon and it will be made available through the company's 1.35 lakh towers in the country. The minister talked about the government's plan to increase the telecom development fund from Rs 500 crore to Rs 4000 crore to encourage indigenous innovations in the telecom sector .

Stating that BSNL will be a strong stabilizing factor in the telecom sector, the minister said that the company has services even in villages like no other company in the country. The Minister said that Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has been asked to provide the necessary equipment for 5G testing to the company and with the implementation of 5G in BSNL, the service will be provided even in remote areas. The government is trying to implement BSNL 5G in the country by August 2023.
