THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: CPM State Secretary MV Govindan explained his comments praising the IUML. Commenting that the Muslim League is a democratic party, MV Govindan added that there is a need for unity against communalism and not a political alliance. "No one has been invited to the LDF. The stand taken by the Muslim League is different from the stand taken by the UDF in today's Kerala political situation. I pointed out that matter.', he said.
"Some important stands taken by the Muslim League in recent times are in favour of secularism. The stance taken by the League is to uphold secularism, whether it is about the governor's saffronization stance and the stance of communalizing the Vizhinjam struggle.", he added.
Meanwhile, following MV Govindan's comment, the Muslim League has come forward with a response. Panakkad Sadiqali Thangal said that League is an integral part of UDF. He added that it is a reality that the League is not a communal party and he doesn't see MV Govindan's words as an invitation.
There were rumours that MV Govindan's statement yesterday that the League is not a communal party but a democratic party was an invitation to the LDF. But the league's response in this regard is cautious. Kunhalikutty said that no other interpretation should be given to MV Govindan's statement. "Congress should consider a Uniform Civil Code. Wahab's criticism in the Rajya Sabha should be viewed positively.", he said.
