KOZHIKODE: 15 UDF councilors of the Kozhikode Corporation were suspended for protesting during the council meeting of the Kozhikode Corporation on the incident of siphoning money from accounts of the Corporation in Punjab National Bank. Although the Congress and BJP had sought permission for the adjournment motion to discuss the fraud, Mayor Beena Phillip had rejected it. Fifteen councilors, including Opposition Leader Shobitha KC, were suspended for protesting even after this.

After the corporation council meeting started, Congress member Moideen Koya and BJP member Rineesh issued a notice seeking permission for an adjournment meeting. However, the mayor said that the money lost from the corporation's account due to fraud has been returned from the bank and now only the interest amount is to be received. She said a letter had been sent to the bank requesting this amount, and the bank had promised to pay the interest.

After giving the explanation, the mayor denied permission for the adjournment motion. Later, she suspended the council proceedings for some time after the opposition intensified the protest. The UDF councilors were later suspended as they continued to protest by raising slogans. Following this, the council adjourned after passing the agenda. The UDF members then staged a sit-in protest in the council hall. BJP members boycotted the council meeting and walked out
