NEW DELHI: A man, who impersonated as an IPS officer to chat with women and duped them of lakhs has been caught. The arrested person is Vikas Goutham from Madhya Pradesh. He used to chat on social media under a fake profile called Vikas Yadav.
The accused only has education till the eighth standard. His social media profile shows him standing in front of a police car. He used to gain the confidence of women by chatting. A lady doctor from Sanjay Gandhi Hospital in Delhi is also one of his victims. He duped her of Rs.25,000.
When the doctor realized that he is an imposter, she decided to file a complaint to the police. However, he threatened her saying that he has political connections.
The police arrested Vikas on the complaint filed by the doctor. After passing the eighth standard, he learned welding from a welding training institute. He used to work in a restaurant at Mukherjee Nagar, a place famous for its numerous Civil Service coaching centers in Northern Delhi.
Vikas used to see many students preparing for the civil service exam here. It is from here that he got the idea to impersonate as an IPS officer. He had been in prison earlier for fraud activities in Uttar Pradesh and Gwalior.
